OG KID GEE/ PURE DEVOCION
Kid Gee began his journey with a personal passion for creating music, inspired by his older brother Vincent who passed away at an early age. Never intending to release it to the public. A chance opportunity with a high school friend led to the creation of his first track, “Forever and a Day,” a track written by Kid Gee and a close childhood friend LJ. Produced by Gary "Skratch G" Martinez and a collaboration that honored a promise to include Amber Romero’s vocals. Inspired in the moment, he wrote the hook for “When I Roll,” a song that resonated deeply with his community and changed the culture of cruising on Federal Boulevard in Denver.
His music gained traction through live shows, starting with a major break opening for Zapp & Roger and Kid Frost. Though initially overlooked by local radio, persistence and support from then Lowrider Magazine's M.C. Kly-n-Tell eventually got his music on JAMN 92.1, the biggest radio station at that time. Catapulting Pure Devocion to local fame. The success brought both opportunities and betrayal, as he dealt with being betrayed by a close collaborator.
Despite the challenges, Kid Gee stayed grounded, supporting his record label, giving back, and refusing record deals that didn’t include his team. His story highlights moments of triumph, community support, personal struggle, and faith. From battles with anger and grief over his brother's death, to being recognized in the streets and on the radio, he transformed from a gang-involved youth to a respected artist.
Throughout, Kid Gee remained true to his roots and driven by a sense of purpose beyond fame—acknowledging God as the reason behind his success. His story is one of redemption, cultural pride, and the power of music to change lives.
